Dear Clinic Owner or Director,
I would like to thank you for considering the opportunity for one of our students to complete their practicum at your facility. The practicum is intended to place students in real clinical situations with the opportunity to gain first hand knowledge of working in a massage environment.
Provided below is information regarding Practicum to help you understand the structure and its intent.
I hope this information, along with the students input will give you a good understanding of the practicum expectations. Should you have any questions feel free to contact me any time at randy@wellingtoncollege.com or 957-2402.
We hope that the experience will be positive for everyone and in many cases will lead to future employment.
Sincerely,

Expectations
The students will have completed all training components by the time they start the practicum in June. Firstly, we want to emphasize that we would like to see you treat the students as if they were a new employee starting to work with you and place the same demands on them as you would any other employee. The working experience in your facility will enhance their understanding of real work situations and expectations of an employer.
During the time when the student is not doing massage feel free to have them make cold calls to old clients or any other general office duties you may have. The students will be eager to learn from you, so please feel free to share your experience with them.
You may want to display a notice in the clinic the month prior to the student participating stating that there will be a student completing a practicum and if they wish, they can book in with them. This approach has been successful in other clinics we have worked with.

Time commitments
The student is expected to complete 30 hours per week (90 hours total) in the practicum. We recognize that this is a guide and the employer will control the actual time.

Practicum evaluation
The College will be requesting that the facility complete a very short report during the practicum. We are providing you with a copy of the report for your reference. Complete the report as if it were one of your employees. Show the students strengths along with areas in which they can improve. Please return the evaluation to the College in the enclosed self-addressed envelope.

Fee charging
You need to be aware that during this period the student does not hold a final diploma although they have completed all aspects of training. For this reason, services provided by the student would not be eligible for insurance reimbursement to clients. However, the choice will be yours as to the fee you will charge the public. Some clinics in the past have charged a lesser fee for services provided by the student.

Student commitments during practicum
The student will be required to attend at the college for 4 hours during the practicum in the 2 nd week. The other commitment the student will have is to attend the College in the last week of the practicum for their final practical exam.
