Course information
- Have you ever had a client who had really bad skin and you wanted to do a treatment with them with a barrier in between your hands and their skin?
- Have you ever had a client refuse to undress or who was allergic to the oil you use?
- Do you do a lot of chair massage or on-site treatments and wanted a different way of applying massage to the body?
- Have you ever just wanted to try something different, to change up your treatment so you weren’t so bored?
If you answered yes to any one of the above questions, this may be the course for you. Chinese massage treatments are characterized by the use of friction, pressure point and stretching manipulations to affect change on the body. The focus is on changing the qualities of Qi in the body, which can normalize range of motion, reduce pain and increase circulation of lymph and blood.
In this course, you will learn some of the commonly used acupuncture points and manipulations. You will also be shown some treatments for common musculoskeletal complaints. Obviously, you cannot learn all the material of a two-year course in three days, but you will be sent home with usable knowledge that will help you in your practice. And it may just challenge your ideas of how treatment works.
Wear comfortable clothes, cotton or bamboo works well. You want smooth material that you wouldn’t mind running your hands over for 3 days. Sweats or yoga clothing are really good options. There will be some lecture portions (usually with demonstrations) but mostly this is a practical course.
About the Instructor
Paul Kohlmeier, BPE, Dipl.Ac., MTAM
Paul is a massage therapist and acupuncturist in Winnipeg. He has been doing massage therapy professionally since 1995 and started Symmetry Massage Therapy in July of 1997. A thirst for knowledge made him seek out and begin learning Chinese Medicine in 1998. He graduated from the Acupuncture program at Hua Xia Acupuncture and Herb College of Canada in 2008 and has been practicing ever since.
In 2006 he started teaching the Tuina (Chinese Massage) program at Hua Xia Acupuncture and Herb College of Canada. Since then, he has redesigned the course, finding new textbooks and creating new course material to use. He also has added a western massage portion to the program so that graduates of the Tuina program can communicate with their colleagues who graduate from the other colleges in the city.
