The following questions about finances are often asked by our applicants. If you have a question not covered in this section, or you require more information, please contact Wellington College directly.
Do I have to pay the full year’s tuition at the beginning of the first year?
Many students do choose to pay the entire course fees upon entering the program. However, many
students opt to participate in one of the payment programs the College has established. These options
are described in-depth on later pages of this booklet.
If I decide not to take the course, will my deposit be returned?
Yes, if you withdraw before the start of classes, your deposit will be fully refunded. If you already
received your materials but have not used them, they will be fully refunded when returned in the
same good condition.
Can I access funding?
Several funding agencies have recognized the College’s programs. Many of these funding programs
depend on an individual’s financial situation or personal background. In the past, students have
received funding from the following agencies:
- Canada Student Loans
- Manitoba Student Loans
- Manitoba Metis Federation
- Manitoba Band Councils
- Employment and Training Manitoba
Other agencies may provide support depending on your particular circumstances. We also encourage students to seek out legitimate scholarships via the Internet. You may also be eligible for funding based on personal interests or your involvement in community groups.
Wellington College is recognized by the Millennium Scholarship Fund. Every year, students in their first year of study can apply to receive a $4,000 award. For more information, go to www.awardforexcellence.ca.
Are student loans available?
Financial assistance through the federal and provincial student loan programs may be available to
those who qualify, however, we encourage students to seriously consider not taking out loans. It is our
experience that student loans may place a huge burden on you upon graduation and could delay the
start of your professional practice.
If you feel you require a student loan, the College recommends that you apply online. The College registrar will provide you with any assistance needed in this process. Online applications are found at www.studentaid.gov.mb.ca.
To avoid the stress of repaying student loans, the College recommends participation in its payment plans. No interest is charged on payment plans. This form of payment allows the student to move into the work force without the stress of excessive debt.
Tuition may be paid in several different formats. If you would like to apply for a payment plan, please notify the College.
What extra books will I require?
There are no extra books to purchase for the course. All necessary texts, reference papers and
literature are included in your materials.
The books and lessons provided by the College remain with you when you graduate and will provide
valuable reference material for many years to come. It is important to note, however, that the content
of handouts created for students remains the copyright of Wellington College.
Tuition
This is the actual cost of instruction. Note, the fee reflects a full course load. If you have chosen a
reduced course load, the College will adjust the fees to reflect your particular course load.
When making a decision about what school to attend, it is important to consider the number of hours
in each program. To maximize educational value, compare the number of training hours, not the
amount of tuition.
As well, when comparing tuition fees, it is important to consider what services are available through
the schools at no additional cost.
Materials Fee
This is the cost associated with the purchase of texts, manuals, scrubs, linens and items provided by
the College. These items are provided at the start of the program.
Compulsory Fee
This fee reflects registration for a two-day workshop, student SRC (Student Representative Council)
fees, LCSP international registration fee and international examination fee, student membership in
provincial massage associations and malpractice and liability insurance.
Manitoba Train Out Fund Fee
This provincially-administered fund ensures that students enrolled in a private educational facility
will be able to complete their training should the school they are attending close.
Refund Policy
The Private Vocational Institutions, Manitoba Department of Education, has set refund policies in
each province. A full copy of the policy is included in the Student Handbook.
